Watch a Movie and Get the Gift of My Rewards+

I have always been a big fan of rewards and loyalty programs. Of course, it’s nice to feel appreciated but there’s something uniquely satisfying in cashing in miles or points for a free trip or treat. OK, I know the reward is not really free – I’ve paid good money to accumulate all those points – but it still feels like I am getting something for nothing.

That “something-for-nothing” feeling is taken to a whole new level with Verizon’s My Rewards+ program. Not only can you accumulate points by renting or buying movies but you also get points for cost-free actions like paying your bill online or downloading the My FiOS app. Heck, you even get points for celebrating your birthday!

Up until now, My Rewards+ has probably been Verizon’s best kept secret, but the company is trying to change all that with a higher profile for the program and a raft of different ways to benefit. Points can now be redeemed for a Visa Prepaid Card, or gift cards from Target, Macy’s, Amazon, Starbucks and more. You can even benefit charitable organizations through CharityChoice Gift Cards.

Verizon customers earn points for adding premium channels like HBO, Showtime or Starz (250 points), ordering new equipment (250 points) or renewing existing services (500 points). But if you really want to grow your points quickly, then Refer a Friend is the way to go. Each qualifying friends can earn a My Rewards+ member as many as 2,500 points.

But all that seems like too much work, then just sit back and order On Demand movies and you get points for that too. You even get 200 points for ordering a Pay per View event. By the way, those points never expire, so you can cash them in when you want to, not when the program tells you to.

So the next time you feel bad about sitting on the couch watching a little TV, just think about all those points that you are racking up. With My Rewards+, it pays to be a Verizon customer!

Verizon FiOS: Your Health and Fitness Partner

Although ‘Get Fit’ and ‘Lose Weight’ are two of the more popular New Year resolutions, they are also two of the hardest goals to achieve. Getting in better shape invariably means a drastic change in lifestyle, and not too many people have the willpower or the flexibility to bring about that change without considerable support and encouragement from those around them.

However, that doesn’t mean that making a New Year resolution to get in better shape is a waste of time. We just need to be realistic in the goals we set for ourselves and create an environment that allows us to succeed. We also need a coach and partner to keep us on track – and that’s where Verizon FiOS can lend a helping hand.

A superfast Internet connection opens up a whole new world of online workouts and nutrition plans that can be customized to give you exactly the results you’re looking for. Streaming services like DailyBurn and Jessica Smith TV give you access to these personal health programs at home or on the road. Whether you are following on your computer, smartphone, tablet, TV or any other connected device, all you need is that reliable Internet connection and 30 minutes a day.

If you don’t want to subscribe to an online fitness service, then there are plenty of On Demand fitness choices from Verizon FiOS, including boot camp workouts, yoga and pilates classes, and dance workouts of every imaginable description. Choose the setting and time of day and you can get everything done on your terms with no car rides or expensive gym subscriptions.

Whether you are streaming personalized fitness routines or choosing your own On Demand programming, you are far more motivated if you have a workout partner. Here’s another way Verizon FiOS can help: set up a video chat so you and your workout partner can exercise together. You don’t have to be in the same room or even in the same part of the country. You get the extra motivation from not letting your partner down and you get to socialize!

However you choose to get in shape, set attainable goals and find a routine that you know you can stick to. Enlisting the help of FiOS is the first step in turning that New Year resolution into a 2016 success story!

Verizon FiOS Steps Up Its Customer Support

Despite the tendency of technology to eliminate the need for human intervention, customer service still matters. In fact, it could be argued that good customer service now matters more than ever, a contention that’s well supported if you visit the chat rooms or social media pages of any well-known consumer brand.

Although the ability to reach a friendly voice is often a welcome surprise, access to the right online support is just as important. And I’m not talking about a pdf version of an incomprehensible user manual. Instead, I want well-organized, relevant information that gets right to the heart of my product or service issues.

These thoughts went through my mind recently when I took a tour of Verizon’s newly-designed online help pages, which might just be the new gold standard in online customer support.

If you are a FiOS Internet customer and you log-on to the support dashboard using the Verizon network, you might be a little surprised to see the page greet you by name. But this is more than just a gimmick. Because Verizon knows exactly who you are and what Verizon services you use, it can tailor its support pages to anticipate your exact service needs.

The support dashboard includes a QuickGuides link that’s a gateway to over 30 helpful and easy-to-follow videos. Each short video – most of them are no more than a minute in length – provides practical advice on a range of popular help topics, such as troubleshooting your Verizon router, or how to print wirelessly from an iPhone or iPad.

As well as the QuickGuides, there are more detailed support pages for Verizon’s three main services: TV, Internet and Phone. Want to set up parental controls on your FiOS TV? A dedicated support page will explain how parental controls work and walk you through the set-up. Want to re-set your Verizon phone voice mail passcode? There’s a help page for that as well.

At any time you can click the Ask Verizon button to connect with an automated Verizon agent. And if you really want to get down and dirty, there are always the Forums, where you can discuss everything from the best On Demand movies to how to find the recently-added SEC Network.

Verizon FiOS is well-known for its speed and reliability. It’s good to know that those qualities also extend to its customer support!

Verizon FiOS Makes You the Internet Hub

It’s just one of those digital age facts that we always took for granted: Internet download speeds were always faster than upload speeds. If we stopped to think about it – which I’m sure not many of us did – it’s easy to see why that was the case. We have traditionally consumed far more web-based content than we have produced, so it made perfect sense that the inbound delivery mechanism was bigger – and therefore faster – than the outbound process.

However, that’s all changing. We are now just as likely to upload a photo or video as we are to download one. With cloud-based storage and collaborative web sites, we are uploading data as much as we are downloading it. Skype and other video chat apps demand equal data speeds. And don’t forget about the web-based gamer, who relies on even response rates to get the most out of a web-based game.

We are now using the Internet to create and share almost as much as we use it to stream and consume, putting us right at the center of the information and entertainment highway. Given our new roles as information hubs, it’s not surprising that Internet providers are hearing the call for faster upload speeds.

Responding to this new reality, Verizon recently brought FiOS upload speeds in line with their superfast download equivalents. Now with speeds of 150/150 Mbps, you can upload 200 photos (1GB) in just 13.3 seconds or upload a 1-hour HD movie (3GB) in under 3 minutes.

Faster upload speeds make working from home much more efficient: we can send e-mails and share documents without the mind-numbing wait for the files to arrive; we can video chat with friends and colleagues with no lag time; and we can make sure everything is backed up to the cloud for secure, anytime, anywhere access.

We are no longer sitting back, passively waiting for anything the Internet decides to throw our way. We are now both consumers and creators, demanding a data pipeline that is fast and reliable in both directions. Yet one more reason to choose Verizon FiOS!
