Stop Bullying
On Thursday, the White House hosts a
Conference on Bullying Prevention, which will focus on the risk factors
associated with bullying, and effective bullying and violence prevention
programs. The conference will also address cyberbullying, which has
been the subject of recent commentary from both the President and first
lady Michelle Obama.
The conference will include a “Facebook
Live” event, featuring Facebook Chief Security Officer, Joe Sullivan;
author and teen expert, Rosalind Wiseman; and MTV Vice President of
Public Affairs, Jason Rzepka. The Facebook event will be moderated by
Kalpen Modi, Associate Director for the White House Office of Public
Engagement.
The entire conference will be streamed live at whitehouse.gov/live from 10:30am to 3:00pm EST, or you can catch the Facebook Live event on Facebook DC Live from 12:00pm. Members of the public will be able to ask questions during the conference or post questions in advance at Facebook Washington DC.
The web site StopBullying.gov
also contains a wide range of information on how communities can work
together to prevent bullying. Materials include explanations of
cyberbullying, effective strategies to combat bullying, and a
downloadable Youth Leader Toolkit to help students take the initiative
against bullying among their peers.
