10 Ways To Be “Socially Excellent” Online

By Matt Mattson, Jessica Gendron Williams and Josh Orendi

The quality of our interactions determines the quality of our personal and organizational reputations. High quality interactions = high quality organization. This is as true for on-line interactions as it is for face-to-face interactions. Many people are still struggling to figure out how to be social on social media.

So, how does one truly maximize their on-line social potential? Enter: “Social Excellence.”

Social Excellence [n]: A state of perpetual generosity, curiosity, positivity, and openness to limitless possibility. A desire to intentionally connect with others. The ability to engage in deep, meaningful conversation. Acting in a responsible and respectable manner, with high expectations of others. Being authentic and living everyday with integrity as the best version of yourself. Being confident and vulnerable. Being fun and compassionate. Being open, kind and bold. The deepest level of societal participation and contribution.

App of the Week – Cargo-Bot

By Matthew McDonnell

Cargo-Bot is the first app to be programmed entirely on an iPad. And while this remarkable feat of software development has been the focus of most of the press surrounding the launch of Cargo-Bot, it is easy to argue that this is not the most notable aspect of this thoroughly impressive app.

It’s one thing to have a great idea, but it’s another thing entirely to turn that idea into a beautiful, simple, and educational app. That’s what developer Two Lives Left has done with Cargo-Bot; an app that’s value comes not only from the features it includes, but perhaps more importantly, from those that are absent.

Tech Report – Microsoft’s Surface Tablet

By Paul O’Reilly

A couple of weeks ago, we wrote about the expanding Microsoft ecosystem, which was given a boost by the introduction of Xbox Music at the E3 video gaming event in Los Angeles. Yesterday, Microsoft went back to that same city to introduce another huge leap forward in its battle to maintain its dominance in computing with a brand new tablet called Surface.

As we noted in the earlier article, the biggest gap in the Microsoft ecosystem was mobile, where iOS and Android were the dominant software options and where Windows Phone was struggling along in a distant third place. That could be about to change with the introduction of Surface. It’s almost as if Microsoft has tired of waiting for manufacturers to come up with a suitable device to showcase its software and has decided to go the Apple route and build one itself instead.

Tech Report – HTC Rezound

For the last few weeks I have had the pleasure of using the HTC Rezound, a media-rich smartphone that runs on Verizon’s 4G LTE network. Although the Rezound had been around for a while – it was released late last year – it remains one of the best of a new generation of smartphones, offering an embarrassment of riches in both communication and entertainment.

The first thing to note about the Rezound is that it’s a little beefier than most new smartphones aspire to be. But that extra heft doesn’t mean the Rezound lacks style. Instead, there is a feeling of sturdiness and reliability about the phone; a device that you can get down and dirty with, rather than worrying about protective covers and fretting over the tiniest scratch.

The feeling that you are dealing with something special starts with the amazing 720p HD display, a screen so big and bright that watching videos or movies quickly becomes a guilty pleasure. Also taking advantage of that screen are the 8.0 megapixel rear-facing and 2.0 megapixel front-facing cameras. I used the Rezound for still shots, video and video chat and all the images were razor sharp with bright and realistic colors.
