Handle
A self-assigned pseudonym used in online chat or gaming.
Hardware
The mechanical devices that comprise a computer system, such as the central processing unit, monitor, keyboard, and mouse, as well as other equipment like printers and speakers.
Hashtag
The # symbol is used to mark keywords or topics in a Tweet. It was created organically by Twitter users.
Hater
Sometimes also written “h8r,” this is a description of someone that tends to post negative messages in in-game chat, or on message boards.
HD
High Definition. Usually used in reference to the higher resolution graphics now widely available on TVs and gaming consoles like the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
HDMI
High Definition Multimedia Interface . A video/audio cable typically used to connect a cable box, DVR, gaming platform or other device to a HD display.
Helper App
Add-on applications that support sound, image, and other formats that browsers can't support by themselves.
Home Page
The main landing or entry page of a web site.
HTML
Hypertext Markup Language. The most common language used to write and present text on the web.
HTML Mail
A more graphics-rich e-mail format. Not all e-mail programs can properly display HTML mail.
HTTP
Hypertext Transfer Protocol. The Internet protocol that the web uses to send information to the client, so the client browser can view web pages.
Hyperlink
An image or portion of text that is linked to a web site address.
